Preferences

The Preferences window allows you to configure various parameters:
- The Sample Rate slider lets you choose how often the accelerometers are
read and saved. You can choose values from 10 Hz (samples per second)
to 500 Hz. (Note that the higher sample rates may not
work on G4 machines.)
- The Buffer Size slider lets you choose how much of a history buffer SeisMac
should save. SeisMac can store over seven million samples (taking about
a gigabyte of RAM), but that space gets used more quickly or slowly based
on your chosen sample rate. So, although when using 10Hz sampling you
can store up to 200 hours of seismic data, if you choose 500Hz sampling
then you can store at most 4 hours of data.
- The Smooth Data checkbox lets you apply a smoothing filter to the data.
Smoothing takes out spurious noise values, but will slow down the response
time. (Smoothing is done with an 10th-order Bessel low-pass filter, with
a corner frequency of one quarter the sample rate.)
- The Station Name, Network Name and Machine Name values are used when
you export to SAC or SACA files.
(Note that only the first eight characters of each name will be used.)
When you've made your choices, click "Apply" to change the configuration
without closing the Preferences window, or "OK" to change and close. Note
that when you change your preferences SeisMac must restart its data collection,
discarding all of its stored data.
