Hardware Requirements

Of course, the big requirement for SeisMac is that your laptop have a Sudden Motion Sensor (SMS), which is designed to park your hard drive's heads if the laptop suddenly finds itself in free-fall. According to Apple, all MacBook and MacBook Pro computers; all PowerBook G4 computers starting with the PowerBook G4 (12-inch 1.5GHz), PowerBook G4 (15-inch 1.67/1.5GHz), and PowerBook G4 (17-inch 1.67GHz); and all iBook computers starting with iBook G4 (Mid 2005) have SMSs.

The other requirement is that SeisMac know how to access your laptop's SMS. Unfortunately, since Apple hasn't published the specifications on how to access the SMS, and in fact has changed them unpredictably, it's very possible that SeisMac won't work with all SMS-equipped laptops. I've had reports of it working with every SMS-equipped model, but there may be situations where it won't work. If it doesn't work on yours, then please feel free to contact me with the details and I'll see what I can do. (If your machine is an SMS-equipped G4 laptop, and SeisMac can't see the SMS, then please read the FAQ.)
